Local roundup: Montville bounces back and beats Amistad 34-6

Montville — Montville scored 21 points in the first quarter and cruised to a 34-6 non-conference football victory over Amistad of New Haven on Friday night.

The Indians (2-3) bounced back strong from last week's tough 21-20 overtime loss at Ledyard and head into their bye week on a positive note.

"We got out a little quick and played with some confidence," Montville coach Tanner Grove said. "Coming off last week's tough one, we needed to come out quickly and put it behind us. ... we're not where we want to be, but we're certainly back in the right direction."

Quarterback Ryan Douchette threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Velez and ran 14 yards for another touchdown in the first quarter. Frank Cook also scored the first of his two touchdowns on a six-yard run in the opening 12 minutes.

Montville's second-half scores came when Dominic Emmons recovered a fumble in the end zone for six points and Cook added a four-yard TD run. Diego Garces-Cortes converted four of his five extra point attempts.
