Heroin and opioid-related overdoses continue on the rise in southeastern Connecticut

Heroin overdoses continue to be reported in New London County. On Friday, three more cases were reported by New London Fire Department officials. Lawrence + Memorial Hospital alone reports having treated 22 cases between Jan. 27 and Feb. 5.

The Day has been reporting on the heroin crisis over the years with our "Deadly Addiction: Heroin" series and over the weekend published a series of stories including a frank conversation with Lisa Cote Johns, whose son died of a heroin overdose in 2014.

We gathered data from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiners that tracks drug-related deaths in Connecticut from 2012 through Sept. 2015. We analyzed the data to see the affect of heroin and opioid-related deaths in Southeastern Connecticut and throughout the state.
