Postal carrier linked to missing mail charged in Montville

Montville – An investigation into reports of undelivered and discarded mail in Montville has led to the arrest of a former mail carrier.

Montville police said Luis Perez, 33, of Groton turned himself in on March 22 to face one count of first-degree criminal mischief.

Police released the arrest information Thursday and details of the investigation were not immediately available because the court case is sealed. Perez initially was held in lieu of a $10,000 court-set bond.

Officials with the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General previously have said that the investigation was prompted by complaints of missing mail on Feb. 6 along a carrier route originating from the Uncasville Post Office.

Information on which route or the number of customers affected was not made public.
