    Mystic, Montville fire chiefs inducted into state Firefighters Hall of Fame

    Mystic Fire Department Chief Frank “Fritz” Hilbert and former Mohegan Fire Company Chief John "Jack" Platt Jr. were among the 2015 inductees into the Connecticut State Firefighters Association Hall of Fame.

    Hilbert and Platt were honored April 8 at the association’s annual banquet and awards ceremony at the Aqua Turf in Southington.

    Honorees, both living and deceased, are chosen for performance in the fire service “above and beyond normal expectations over an extended period of time.” All nominees “shall have demonstrated leadership and have shown themselves to be a motivating force for the betterment of the fire service throughout Connecticut and the United States.”

    Hilbert has served 44 years in the fire service, 26 years as chief in Mystic. He is the former president of the Connecticut State Firefighters Association and currently a member of the Commission on Fire Prevention and Control for the Connecticut Fire Academy.

    Platt Jr. served as the chief of the Mohegan Fire Company in Montville from 1976 to 1996.

    Others 2015 Hall of Fame inductees were: Larry Black, Watertown; Ralph Black Jr., New Haven; Cathy Goetz, Haddam; Rev. Edward Goetz, Haddam; John Keenan (deceased), Long Ridge, Stamford; Maurice McCarthy Sr. (deceased), Waterbury; Wayne Sandford, East Haven; Richard Symonds Jr., Tolland; George H. Thompson (deceased), Willimantic; John Walsh, Willimantic/Hartford, and Robert White (deceased), Westfield.
