New London — A Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School student on Wednesday made comments about a shooting at the school that police determined did not pose any danger to students, according to an email sent to parents Wednesday afternoon.

Police charged the student with breach of peace in connection with the incident, according to New London police Capt. Brian Wright.

Students reported hearing their classmate make the comment to school staff, who contacted administrators.

School staff "immediately initiated safety measures to ensure the safety of all students and staff," the email said.

Police found no immediate danger, and school officials made counselors available to students.
