A New London Superior Court judge dismissed domestic violence charges Friday against Groton City police Officer Kate E. Ellis, who was arrested in June 2017 after an off-duty incident in North Stonington.

Judge Ernest Green Jr. dismissed the charges of fourth-degree criminal mischief, breach of peace and third-degree assault after Ellis completed the evaluation and counseling recommended by family relations staff, according to Ellis' court file.

Ellis, of Gales Ferry, who had been with the department since 2009, remains on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation. The department confiscated her badge and gun following her arrest. She was prosecuted by attorney Kevin Shay and is represented by defense attorney Michael A. Blanchard.

According to state police, troopers were called to a residence on Jeremy Hill Road in North Stonington at 12:15 p.m. on June 14 for a "non-active" disturbance. Ellis, who was off-duty, was charged with inflicting a minor injury on an unidentified 41-year-old man and damaging items belong to him.
