NRBQ plays Olde Mistick Village Art Cinemas

If you counted all the folks who've actually been members over the years, NRBQ - the New Rhythm & Blues Quartet - would more accurately be called NRBBD: the New Rhythm & Blues Baker's Dozen.

That's okay. The band is now almost 50 years old, so you'd expect a bit of personnel give and take. What's important is that seminal founding member Terry Adams still helms the ship. It's also cool to note that the band is "R&B" in name only. Over time, NRBQ has experimented in a variety of genres from rock and country to power pop and even jazz - and have always found a way to twist and blend the best aspects of all musical forms and come up with something fresh and original and, well, NRBQ-y.

Still on the road in support of their recent "Brass Tacks" album, they play a special matinee show Sunday at 4 p.m. in the theater at the Olde Mistick Village Art Cinemas. Opening will be Boston's Lisa Marie & Johnny Juxo.

    - RICK KOSTER

NRBQ, 4 p.m. Sunday, Olde Mistick Village Art Cinemas, 27 Coogan Blvd., Mystic; $25; (860) 536-4228.
