Hot Nashville act Old Dominion plays Foxwoods Friday

On Friday, the Old Dominion Monarchs will appear in the Grand Theater at Foxwoods. It's perhaps rare that a college football team would show up at a casino entertainment venue, but the Monarchs, who went 10-3 last year and earned their first-ever bowl appearance (defeating Eastern Michigan in the Bahamas Bowl), are enjoying unprecedented popularity. Led by quarterback —

Oh, hold on! Apparently, it's the rising country group Old Dominion that will perform Friday in the Grand Theater — not a college football team. Apologies.

The band Old Dominion, featuring established Nashville songwriters Matt Ramsey, Trevor Rosen and Brad Tursi, embody the perfect formula for modern country success: hook-spangled tunes and harmonies along with flourishes of pop, rock and hip hop — but never at the expense of their honky tonk DNA. Old Dominion is out in support of their recently-out second album, "Happy Endings," and the show will certainly include chart-topping singles "No Such Thing as a Broken Heart," "Break Up with Him" and "Song for Another Time."

Here's the thing, though: Old Dominion has been together, struggling to get a deal and out of the clubs, for two decades — and it finally happened. Bravo!

    Old Dominion, 8 p.m. Friday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $30, $40; 1-800-200-2882.
