New London — A one-car crash in front of Electric Boat's office on Pequot Avenue has left two pedestrians injured, one critically.

At 12:07 p.m. Wednesday, New London police received a call that a car had struck two pedestrians, employees of the submarine builder, at the roundabout near the entrance to EB. Emergency personnel arrived to find a male lying on the sidewalk and a female in a dirt area, police Chief Peter Reichard said.

The male operator of the vehicle was still in the car when emergency personnel arrived. The operator was conscious, alert and talking to medical personnel. Reichard said the operator was cooperating with the investigation. As of Wednesday evening, police had not made public the identities of anyone involved.

The driver and the two pedestrians were transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. The female pedestrian was listed in critical condition, Reichard said about 1:20 p.m., while the male pedestrian sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. The operator of the vehicle was also transported to the hospital.

"Our thoughts are with all involved," Liz Power, a spokeswoman for EB, said in a statement.

Police were spending Wednesday afternoon reconstructing the accident. They were being aided by information from witnesses.
