Somehow, this news escaped me when it happened: Back in 2012, Sarah Brightman (who originated the role of Christine in “Phantom of the Opera”) announced that she was going to fly to the International Space Station and become the first professional musician to sing live in orbit.

Imagine that!

The plan was to do a number chosen by Andrew Lloyd Webber, her ex-husband. She was going to travel in a Russian Soyuz rocket and even trained near Moscow.

But she eventually backed out for unspecified “personal family reasons.”

Well, kids, space’s loss is Foxwoods’ gain.

Brightman, whose vocal range spans more than three octaves and who is billed as the world’s best-selling soprano, is on tour in support of her “Hymn” album. She brings that tour to Foxwoods’ Grand Theater for a Friday concert.

Expect a good sampling of numbers from “Hymn,” which was released in November. Brightman has described the songs she chose for the album as being “full of light, full of hope.”
