    Second child death in a month reported in Putnam

    Putnam - For the second time in just over two weeks, police are investigating the untimely death of a young child.

    Putnam police responded early Friday morning to a home at 7 Mohegan St. for reports of an unresponsive infant. The child was pronounced deceased after being taken by ambulance to Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam.

    State police major crime detectives have joined Putnam police to investigate the circumstances of the infant's death. A post mortem examination is expected to be performed to determine the cause and manner of death. No further information was available Friday afternoon.

    On March 26, police responded to a home on Mechanics Street in Putnam for reports of an unresponsive 2 1/2 –year-old. An autopsy determined the child died after choking on a piece of cereal while allegedly left home alone by the girlfriend of the child's father. Both the child's father and the girlfriend face charges in connection with that toddler's death.
