Area legislators volunteered as readers on Friday, March 2, as part of Read Across America Day. State Sen. Paul Formica, R-East Lyme, read to students at Winthrop STEM Elementary School in New London, Rep. Holly Cheeseman, R-East Lyme, read to students at Niantic Center Elementary School, and Rep. Kathleen McCarty, R-Waterford, read to students at Great Neck Elementary School.

The day is an annual celebration of literacy, celebrated on the birthday of Dr. Seuss, and the legislators volunteered to read in partnership with the United Way, which coordinated volunteer readers and book donations.
