'Gardens by the Sea' walking tour returns to Stonington Borough Friday and Saturday

Editor's note: This version corrects the dates of the event, which happens Friday and Saturday.

The flowers kept blossoming over the past two years, but the pandemic kept the Stonington Garden Club from showing them off on the annual “Gardens by the Sea” walking tour.

Well, the tour returns Friday and Saturday in Stonington Borough, and these rarely seen private gardens should be looking gorgeous.

In addition to the eight residential gardens that are part of the tour, visitors can visit the COMO Children’s Learning Garden. That’s the Stonington Garden Club’s primary community project featuring regenerative gardening techniques.

Each site will feature plant labels and landscape garden plans. Visitors can ask any questions of the garden club members who will be at all the locales.

The gardens are all within walking distance of one another.

    Also part of the weekend:

    — “Artists in the Borough.” Artists will paint outdoors around the Borough. Their work will be sold at the Artists in the Borough Pop-Up Gallery at the La Grua Center.

    — Marketplace at Wadawanuck Square. Vendors will sell garden-inspired items, as well as clothing, jewelry, and home décor. Also on hand: representatives from Coogan Farm Giving Garden, Avalonia Land Conservancy, the UConn Master Gardener Program, and the UConn Master Composter Program.

    — Celebrity Speaker. Charlie Nardozzi, who is a garden writer, speaker, and radio and TV personality, will speak at 1 p.m. both days at the Stonington Harbor Yacht Club. Tickets are $25.

Gardens by the Sea, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Fri. and Sat., Stonington Borough; rain or shine; tickets $35 online, $40 if purchased on site days of the tour; tickets are valid for both days; there is also a sold-out Preview Party at 6 p.m. Thursday (tonight) at La Grua Center; space limited for Celebrity Speaker; stoningtongardenclub.org.
