Memorial Day parade, vigils in region on Sunday

Most Memorial Day parades in the region happen on Monday, but Sunday features a parade and two vigils honoring the holiday.

The Ledyard parade steps off at 1:15 p.m., traveling from the Ledyard Center School/town fairgrounds down Route 117, Colonel Ledyard Highway and Gallup Hill Road to the Ledyard High School parking lot. Vigils, meanwhile, happen Sunday night in East Lyme and New London.

The East Lyme one starts at 7 p.m. on the Town Green on the corner of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Niantic.

The New London candlelight vigil begins at 8 p.m. on Parade Plaza at the bottom of State Street.
