New London - The New London Fire Department Friday evening responded to reports of a fire at one of the units of the George Washington Carver Elderly Housing complex at 202 Colman St.

The fire was contained to a second floor apartment where a sprinkler system had extinguished the blaze. The fire appears to have started in the kitchen, but remains under investigation.
