    Sun sign Hightower, Greene

The Connecticut Sun signed half of their restricted free agents Wednesday as guards Allison Hightower and Kalana Greene both signed with the team.

    Hightower signed a four-year deal, Greene a one-year contract.

The Sun have two restricted free agents — center Tina Charles and forward Kelsey Griffin. They are free to negotiate with any team, but Connecticut can retain them by matching any offer they receive.

Hightower made herself into an All-Star pick last season and averaged a career-high 12.8 points. She's been among the team's best defenders since being drafted 15th overall (second round) in 2010.

"We know that Allison will continue to be an instrumental part of the Connecticut Sun in the future," Sun coach Anne Donovan said. "This long-term contract signifies her value to our organization, and I couldn't be more pleased."

Greene averaged 26.1 minutes last season and played all 34 games. She had 126 rebounds and was another of Connecticut's best defenders.

The Sun have six guards under contract. They signed guard Katie Douglas on Monday and traded for guard Alex Bentley earlier in the month. They also have Kelly Faris and Renee Montgomery under contract. Teams may carry 12 players.

Guard Sydney Carter and Tan White are both unrestricted free agents. White has been with Connecticut the past five seasons, and Carter played 15 games for it last year.
