Garlic Festival is this weekend at Olde Mistick Village

Linda Womack, left, looks on as she helps Daisy Cheng-Milano, of Groton, try on a handmade garlic hat during the annual Garlic Festival last year at Olde Mistick Village. The annual event features specialty garlic food as well as a variety of fresh garlic products.

Call it the sweet smell of success.

For a dozen years, the Garlic Festival at Olde Mistick Village has become a hugely popular draw by offering all things garlicky.

Some might say garlic smells. I say garlic smells … delicious.

At the fest, which returns this weekend, you can buy food boasting garlic as an ingredient (or, perish the thought, even some garlic-free dishes) that are cooked up by area restaurants.

You can also find everything from crafts to gifts proffered by merchants and artisans, authors and artists.

And, of course, stores in Olde Mistick Village are part of the fun, as they highlight their own garlic activities and products.

    Garlic Festival, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, Olde Mistick Village, 27 Coogan Boulevard; (860) 536-4941, www.oldemistickvillage.com.
