Busta Rhymes and more entertain Friday at Foxwoods

Apocryphally, during the Scopes "Monkey" Trial — at least as its recounted in the play "Inherit the Wind" — prosecutor William Jennings Bryant admonished his opponent and old friend Clarence Darrow for drifting away from what he regarded as once-shared principles. Darrow gently responded, "All motion is relative. Perhaps it's you who's moved away — by standing still."

Well, in these times when the aesthetics of hip-hop change almost daily, are modern fans even aware of once-giants like Busta Rhymes and Fabolous? Or have they become obsolete simply by doing what they do? And, Darrow aside, is that necessarily a bad thing?

Methinks there are still plenty of old school fans who revere the pioneers of rap, which is why the Legends of the Mic concert, taking place Friday in the Grand Theater at Foxwoods, will be at the very least a glorious trip through the past. Along with Rhymes and Fabolous, The Lox, Cameron and Cassidy will perform.

Legends of the Mic, 8 p.m. Friday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $78-$158; 1-800-200-2882.
