After the New York Times called Eileen Ivers “the Jimi Hendrix of the violin,” could Ivers’ publicist just retire?

I mean, that pretty much says it all, right? What more do you need to know about Ivers?

Well, there’s also the Washington Post weighing in, calling her “the future of the Celtic fiddle.”

This fiddle virtuoso who inspired such superlatives is coming to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center on Saturday. She’ll be there with her excellent band Universal Roots, with Matt Mancuso on lead vocals, guitar, trumpet, fiddle; Buddy Connolly on button accordion, whistles, piano, vocals; Lindsey Horner on upright and electric bass, baritone sax, vocals; and Dave Barckow on lead vocals, percussion, guitar. Ivers handles fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bodhran, and live looping. Man, talk about a multitalented bunch.

Ivers is American (born in the Bronx) and has earned the title of All-Ireland Fiddle Champion nine times. She’s been nominated for Grammys and Emmys and has performed with everyone from Sting to The Chieftains. She starred in “Riverdance” and co-founded Cherish the Ladies.

Fans attending Ivers’ Saturday concert at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center will likely get a sneak listen to songs from her upcoming album “Scatter the Light,” which is set to be released March 13.
