Owing to his personal and artistic wanderlust — not to mention that he's in popular demand all over — Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra music director/conductor Toshiyuki Shimada has spent a lot of time working and traveling in Turkey.

Partly as a result of friendships he's made with native artists over there, the ECSO's Saturday concert in the Garde Arts Center is called "Turkish Delight" and features two of Shimada's friends from that country, guest soloists Bülent Evcil (flute) and Cagatay Akyol (harp). They'll perform Mozart's Concerto for Harp and Flute, the only piece Mozart wrote for harp. And the evening begins with a work called Esintiler (Inspirations) by one of Turkey's most beloved composers, Ferit Tüzün.  

Also on the program is a post-intermission recitation of Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, exerpts from which have been included in films like "Mr. Holland's Opus" and "The King's Speech."
