Comic Aida Rodriguez comes to Comix Roadhouse at Mohegan Sun

Aida Rodriguez has been a popular comic on the standup circuit for quite a while. But television watchers will know her better from two series. Rodriguez was a finalist on “Last Comic Standing” on NBC in 2014. And she was featured on “Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready” on Netflix in 2019.

Haddish and Rodriguez are longtime friends, from their road-warrior days.

Rodriguez will also do a solo standup special for HBO Max, according to deadline.com, with air dates to be determined. Press info says the special “will confront today’s audiences about cancel culture and the social issues of the day — not just because they’re ripped from the headlines but because they are in the pages torn out of her personal life.”

And what a personal life. When she was a kid, she was kidnapped by her mother from her father, and later by her grandparents from her mother because of her mother’s abusive boyfriend. As an adult, she lived in a car for a bit.

Rodriguez’s life now is a testament to persistence, hard work and the power of humor.

You just might get a preview of HBO Max material when Rodriguez comes to Comix Roadhouse for a three-night run of gigs, from Thursday through Saturday.

    Aida Rodriguez, 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Comix Roadhouse, Mohegan Sun; $20-$45 Thurs., $25-$55 Fri. and Sat.; comixroadhouse.com, (860) 862-7000.
