Ratt vocalist Stephen Pearcy headlines metal show Friday at Sun

The brilliant social critic Chuck Klosterman once made an observation based on the fact that Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby died within 48 hours of Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone.

"Ratt was profoundly uncool (read: populist) and the Ramones were profoundly significant (read: interesting to rock critics)," Klosterman wrote. As such, despite the fact that Ratt sold millions more records than the Ramones, Crosby's death was, in the music press and amongst its cognoscenti, a cultural footnote — while Ramone's was regarded as a significant Loss to Art Itself.

Sometimes, Fate balances the scale in strange ways. Thanks to an appearance in a recent and amusing Geico commercial that features their signature song "Round and Round," Ratt is suddenly on the radar again and — because "Round and Round" is a freakin' catchy as hell song — probably has a bunch of new fans nearly four decades after their heyday.

While Ratt is officially still a band, any tour or recording plans have been on COVID-related hiatus. Vocalist Stephen Pearcy, however, regarded as one of the finest frontmen of the hair metal era, is touring with a solo band and headlines the Mohegan Sun Arena. He will not sing any Ramones songs. Slaughter and Quiet Riot (no original members) appear in support.
