Barenaked Ladies plays Sun Arena Saturday

Jim Creeggan, of the Barenaked Ladies, performs during the Tortuga Music Festival on Fort Lauderdale Beach, Saturday, November 13, 2021.

Remember when founding member Stephen Page left Barenaked Laides and fans moaned his departure would ruin the band?

It's not really fair to now say, "Stephen who?" because the dude is a fine songwriter. Truth is, though, Page has been gone for 13 years — more than half the group's existence.

However, as BNL is an excellent live band still filling big halls — see them Saturday in the Mohegan Sun Arena — they've clearly managed to carry on in that "we've sold 15 million albums and have a generous set list full of hits" fashion.

    HOLD ON ...

Whoops! That was my phone ringing. It was Page calling. "You spell my name with a V!" he said. "It's S-T-E-V-E-N!"

I apologized and said, "It's been a while, Steve. And thanks for letting the Ladies still play 'Brian Wilson' and 'It's All Been Done' even though you wrote them."

NOW, please show up on time for this show because the two opening bands, the Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket, each have a handful of state-of-the-craft perfect pop songs. Also, this show is a rescheduled event from July 11, 2020, and July 10, 2021, and tickets from those will be honored.

Barenaked Ladies, 7 p.m. Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $33.50; www.mohegansun.com.
