Man involved in 2008 fatal hit-and-run accident arrested on multiple charges

Montville — An Oakdale man who served prison time in connection with a 2008 fatal hit-and-run accident was arrested Sunday on a slew of charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

State police said they arrested Jeffrey Socha, 26, of 3 Ventura Drive, after a motor vehicle stop on Route 32.

Socha was also charged with disobeying an officer’s signal, possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana, tampering with evidence, interfering with police and failure to drive right.

Socha was sentenced Dec. 29, 2011, to six years in prison, suspended after 20 months served and three years probation after he pleaded guilty to negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and evading responsibility in connection with the hit-and-run accident that killed 59-year-old Fu Quan Liu on Route 32 near Sandy Desert Road. Liu was a Mohegan Sun worker walking in a crosswalk when he was struck and killed.

It took police six months to arrest Socha in connection with Liu’s death.

Socha was arraigned Tuesday in Norwich Superior Court on his most recent case. He posted a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 10.
