The Lorelei Ensemble sings in Westerly
Who they are: The Lorelei Ensemble, a nine-woman choral ensemble
What they do: Try to expand music for women's voices
Where they'll be: Guesting in the Chorus of Westerly's Kent Hall Masters Series, with a Saturday concert in the George Kent Performance Hall in Westerly.
What they'll sing: They'll pair new and ancient music, "presented in a delicately curated fashion that heightens the experience of music from both time periods." On the ancient side, they'll perform a Byzantine chant by the female composer Kassia, as well as polyphonic music by Pérotin and Du Fay. On the new front, they'll sing pieces written expressly for Lorelei by Peter Gilbert, Joshua Shank and Joshua Bornfield.
Where they're from: The ensemble, whose artistic director is Beth Willer, is based in Boston. Lorelei serves as ensemble-in-residence at Boston University's Marsh Chapel.
