East Haven (AP) — Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is appearing in East Haven to discuss the state's efforts to help shoreline residents protect their homes and businesses from future storms and flooding.

The Democrat was scheduled to join Department of Housing Commissioner Evonne Klein and other state and local officials at a news conference on Thursday at the East Haven Beach House.

In his proposed budget, Malloy called for spending an additional $25 million on the Shoreline Resiliency Fund. The account was created to provide low-interest loans for state residents whose property is vulnerable to coastal flooding and who need to elevate their homes and flood-proof their businesses to meet new requirements.

It's unclear whether that funding will be part of the final revised state budget, which has yet to be negotiated.
