Jay Mohr does standup at Foxwoods
In today's carousel-ride entertainment business, any given "artist" might have three or four or six or seven "careers" going: Singer. Television actor. Film actor. Author. Game show host. Olympic athlete. Agent representing Olympic athletes.
Usually, in these instances, said Big Shot is good at (or got famous at) ONE discipline - and ego and money dictates that he or she branch out. Stinko.
Jay Mohr, on the other hand, is a dude who's definitely explored his artistic horizons and, dammit, he's pretty good at all of them. He hosts a radio talk show, he's published two bestselling books, he's done voice-over video game work, and he's a film and TV star.
It's standup comedy, though, where Mohr got his start and his initial celebrity - and, he says, it's on the nightclub stage where he's still happiest. Reasonably unusual in that each standup gig is largely unscripted - with no notes or previous material - Mohr jumps off the punchline cliff each night, and usually with exhilarating success. See why when he invents a new routine Saturday in the Fox Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
