    Make a Difference: Mother's Retreat

WHO: Tamica, a single mother of two

AGENCY: Mother's Retreat, a Groton-based residential program run by The Connection that helps pregnant women and women with children in recovery.

HER SITUATION: Tamica is a single mother of a 2-year-old and 16-year-old daughter, who is a 10th grader and an honor roll student. Despite not having a father figure in her life, she strives to keep her education a priority. Her 2-year-old daughter is very smart, a fast learner and full of life. Tamica is currently homeless and looking to secure stable employment and safe and affordable housing. She said she is goal-oriented and motivated to re-establish herself as self-sufficient and independent to offer her daughters a better way of life.

WHAT TO GIVE: Tamica's youngest daughter needs any type of winter clothing in size 2T and would love learning toys, hair accessories, and hygiene products. Gift cards to local stores would be helpful (TJ Maxx, Wal-Mart, grocery stores, or food locations). Her older daughter would love an Xbox One and some winter clothing in size 15, shoes/boots, and hygiene products for a teen. Tamica could use winter clothing, an electronic tablet, clothing appropriate for job interviews and hygiene products (hair/nail/beauty products). She would also love a new Bible.

TO DONATE: Contact Melanie or Mary at Mother's Retreat at (860) 405-2107.
