    Local roundup: Waterford-Stamford features state tournament's two unbeatens

    CT Babe Ruth (15) baseball

    • Waterford will play Stamford for a berth in the Connecticut Babe Ruth 15-year-old tournament championship at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Waterford Babe Ruth Field. Both teams are 2-0 in the double-elimination event and the winner will advance to Friday's championship round needing only one more win to advance to the New England Regional tournament on July 20 in Augusta, Maine.

    CT Babe Ruth (14) baseball

    • Waterford was eliminated from the Connecticut Babe Ruth 14-year-old tournament on Monday night, losing to Newtown 10-1 at Unity Field in Trumbull. The District 6 champion, Waterford went 0-2 in the double-elimination event.

    CT Baseball (13) baseball

    • Ethan Moore went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs during East Lyme's 9-7 loss to host Newtown in an elimination game at the Connecticut Babe Ruth 13-year-old tournament Monday night. Chris Martin scored a pair of runs and Jack Kelly doubled for the District 6 champion, which finished 1-2 in the double-elimination event.

    District 10 LL (11-12) baseball

    • Top-seeded Mystic advanced to the District 10 Little League (11-12) championship series with a 15-5 win over No. 4 New London on Monday night. Mystic will face No. 2 East Lyme in Game 1 of the best-of-three final at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Patterson Field in Waterford. Jackson LaLima, Trace Morales and Payton Neal had two hits apiece for Mystic, including RBI hits during a six-run third inning that broke the game open. Mando Aquirre and Landon Hill had multiple hits for New London.
