Bluegrass legend Krauss plays Foxwoods Friday
I have no reason to suppose the wonderfully gifted bluegrass/roots musician/singer Alison Krauss participates in voodoo or witchcraft rituals — other than it's fun to ponder scenarios like that. For example, it'd be cool if Krauss consulted a sinister grimoire to cast a spell on George Solti.
After all, Solti, the renowned orchestra and opera conductor, is the only human alive with more Grammy awards than Krauss. He has 31 Grammy trophies to Krauss' 27, y'see.
Krauss, though, is too busy making and exploring music to worry about such things — at least until we wake up one day and discover Solti has been turned into a hare.
Anyway, yes, Krauss: from glorious and protracted work with her longtime band Union Station to collaborations with folks like Robert Plant, Tommy Shaw and Brad Paisley, Krauss has always sought to expand her musical vocabulary. Her latest recording, "Windy City," is her first solo album in 18 years, curated by noted producer Buddy Cannon, and she's on tour behind the chart-topping album. She performs Friday in the Grand Theater at Foxwoods. Expect glorious passion and virtuosity.
Alison Krauss, 8 p.m. Friday, Foxwoods' Grand Theater; $40-$65; 1-800-200-2882.
