If it floats — or is even remotely connected to such things (or even remotely connected to fun in general) — chances are excellent you'll find it at the latest Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival taking place today through Sunday in downtown New London and along the city's waterfront.

The gala features a baker's dozen visiting ships including the 388-foot U.S.S. Sioux City, the United States Coast Guard Barque Eagle and the civilian sailing school vessel Oliver Hazard Perry as well as cutters, ferries, schooners, ice-cutters, sailing boats and more. Naturally, there will be food, live music, family activities, presentations and entertainment zones — and, from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at City Pier, Flock Theater's production of "The Burning of Benedict Arnold" (with the traitor's incineration scheduled for around 8:30 p.m.).

Also, don't eat from now till 11 a.m. Saturday, when you can take part in the "Great New London Chowder Challenge" featuring deliciously conjured chowders from several of the area's finest restaurants.
