There are distinct advantages to having David Dorfman Dance be the company-in-residence at Connecticut College. Audiences here often get to see this world-class group’s completed dances first.

DDD premieres its latest work, called “A(way) Out of My Body,” this weekend at Conn.

The piece “investigates the out-of-body experience as related to intergenerational trauma, and the mental burden and physical impact of surviving personal adversity,” DDD’s publicity states. “… Where do our minds and spirits travel when the weight of everyday life becomes an unbearable load to carry?”

DDD is led by David Dorfman, a longtime dance professor at Conn.

The dancers are accompanied by a four-person band.

With Palmer Auditorium in the process of undergoing renovations, the performances will be in Myers Studio. What a great chance to see this estimable dance troupe perform in such an intimate space.

And there is a premiere after party at 9 p.m. Saturday at RD86 Space, 86 Golden St., New London. Tickets are $25 and are available on Eventbrite.

David Dorfman Dance’s “A(way) Out of My Body,” 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Myers Studio, Connecticut College, New London; Friday is sold ou;t $24, $21 for seniors, $12 for students; (860) 439-2787, onstage.conncoll.edu.
