East Lyme — Families kicked off summer Tuesday by picking strawberries at Scott's Yankee Farmer.

Among them was Michele Mahoney, with her 8-month-old Josi strapped to her back. "I think strawberries are gonna be her first solid food," Michele said.

The pick-your-own farm is open for strawberries through at least this week and will open for blueberry picking in early July. For updated schedules and reservations, see scottsyankeefarmer.net/pick-your-own/.
