Lottery opens three more retail sports-betting locations

Three more retail sports-betting locations operated by the Connecticut Lottery Corp. have opened this week in Sportech Venues’ Winners locations, doubling the number now accepting wagers.

Sportsbooks opened Thursday at Winners in Manchester and Waterbury, a day after the sportsbook opened in Winners New Britain, the lottery announced.

Previously, the lottery opened sportsbooks at Sports Haven in New Haven and at Bobby V’s restaurants in Stamford and Windsor Locks, all Sportech locations. Four more lottery/Sportech locations will open in Hartford, Milford, Norwalk and Torrington in the near future, the lottery said.

A state law enacted in the spring authorized the lottery to operate up to 15 retail sports-betting locations around the state, none of which can be within 25 miles of the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan reservations that are home to Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun.

The tribes were authorized to provide sports betting at the casinos as well as via online platforms. On Sept. 30, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun opened temporary sportsbooks in partnerships with DraftKings and FanDuel, respectively, and plan to unveil permanent facilities within the next few weeks.

The lottery’s sports-betting provider is Rush Street Interactive, which operates the PlaySugarHouse brand in Connecticut.
