    Local roundup: Vikings top Colonels in boys’ soccer

    East Lyme — East Lyme High School scored three second-half goals in a 3-0 win over Ledyard in boys’ soccer.

    The Vikings (2-1) got on the scoreboard with an own goal two minutes into the half. Gavin O’Brien scored off a corner from Brendan Osso in the 53rd minute and Quincy Gates-Grayson scored in the 65th minute with Ryan Wargo assisting. Connor Piper made five saves for East Lyme and Paulo Templeton made eight for Ledyard (1-1-1).

    In other games:

    • Mason Bussman and Lucas Dasilva scored two goals each in Old Lyme’s 9-1 victory at North Branford. Rowan Hovey, Anders Silberberg, Liam Celic, Ian Maeby and Alis Bicic also had goals for the Wildcats (2-1 overall, 2-0 Shoreline Conference) and Colman Curtis-Reardon had two assists. Jonah Lathrop and Oliver Wyman combined to earn the victory in goal.

    • Josh Lord had a goal and an assist for Stonington in a 3-1 victory over NFA in a non-divisional ECC matchup. Ryan Turner and freshman Sal Alessio also scored for Stonington (2-0) and Anders Dahl and Brett Caron had assists. Louis Hawkins scored for NFA (1-1-1).

    • Montville scored five first-half goals to beat Plainfield 5-1. Madden Brown scored twice, Colby Cowan and Carter Vasington each had a goal and an assist and Noah Keenan added a goal for Montville (1-1-1), which gave first-year head coach Chris Ouellette his first career victory. Nolan Muncaster and Luke Chapman each added an assist. Kaisen Majernick scored for Plainfield.

    • Lyman Memorial beat Wheeler 4-1. Dave Levanto scored for Wheeler (0-2).

    Field hockey

    • Stonington’s Anna Lettiere had a goal and two assists as the Bears defeated Norwich Free Academy 5-0 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference opener for both teams. Emma Spathakis, Katie Anbari, Nora Walsh and Autumn Christina added goals for Stonington (1-1, 1-0), which led 3-0 at halftime. Chloe Herrick had 17 saves for NFA (0-1, 0-1) and Madi Allard two for Stonington.

    • Sophie Ash had scored two goals and added an assist in Fitch’s 4-1 victory over Killingly in the ECC. Izzy Ash and Ashleigh Holmes also scored for the Falcons (2-0, 1-0) and Izzy Ash, Charlotte Cabral and Olivia Romano had assists.

    Girls’ cross country

    • Norwich Free Academy’s Eliana Duclos won the race in 22 minutes, 3 seconds and teammates Anna Ricketts and Karina Chen were second and third as the Wildcats topped St. Bernard 17-42 and Putnam 15-50 in their season opener. Mia Klewin of was fourth overall for St. Bernard, which also beat Putnam 15-50.

    • Montville’s Maya Suarez was the overall winner in 16:53 but East Lyme captured the next seven spots to beat Montville 20-43 and Windham 15-50. East Lyme’s Kennedy Holsapple was second in 17:29, Aranza Torres third in 17:46 and Kayleigh Jensen fourth in 18:03. Montville also defeated Windham 15-50.

    Boys’ cross country

    • Brandant Fant set a course record in 13 minutes, 54 seconds over 2.55 miles, leading East Lyme to wins over Montville (18-43) and Windham (15-50). Montville also topped Windham 15-50. Fant’s time broke the record set by Ian Hoffman of Woodstock Academy in 2021. East Lyme’s Nate Bergman was second (14:31) and Montville’s Dylan Horkey was third (14:35). East Lyme had eight of the top 10 runners.

    • Ethan Manfredi finished first in 18:21, leading NFA to 15-50 wins over St. Bernard and Putnam in the season opener for the Wildcats. NFA runners finished first through seventh, with Patrick Croughwell, Jesse Croteau, Ashton Croteau, Robinson Meuse, Nicholas DeBartolo and Owen Muench following Manfredi. St. Bernard freshman Maddox Roen was eighth overall.

    Volleyball

    • Kassidy LaTour had 11 kills, eight assists, two digs and two aces in Lyman Memorial’s 25-12, 25-10, 25-13 win over Putnam. Jenny Lopez had 14 assists and Arianna Garcia 10 digs for Lyman (2-1).

    • Shae McMunn had 14 assists and Skylar Bell 11 digs in East Lyme’s 3-0 loss to Newtown. Game scores were 25-21, 25-17, 25-17.

    Men’s soccer

    • No. 1 Connecticut College, after a scoreless first half, beat Rhode Island College 4-0. Augie Djerdjaj had a goal and an assist, Matt Scoffone, Gaven Vanden Berg and Dylan Zane scored goals and Sam Boehm, Alessandro Horvath Diano and Jake Creus had assists for the Camels (2-0-1).
