Plans call for restaurant with rooftop deck on site of downtown Mystic gas station

Mystic — A Waterford-based development group is seeking a special use permit from the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission so it can construct a two-level restaurant topped by a rooftop deck on the site of the former Broadway Auto gas station.

G Development LLC, whose sole officer is Candice Georgiadis, is seeking to tear down the existing garage which is located on a 0.18-acre site at 32 Broadway. Records show they purchased the property for $375,000 last year.

Plans then call for building a two-story restaurant over a ground-level parking area and a deck on the roof, essentially making it a four-level structure.

The application states the restaurant and bar would have 109 seats. Plans call for 15 on-site parking spots, with the remainder of parking offsite within 500 feet of the property.

The site is adjacent to the recently closed MBAR wine bar, which was located in the former Frank’s auto gas station.

Residents in the surrounding neighborhood have opposed the opening of new restaurants and other development such as the unsuccessful Smilers Wharf project because of concerns about additional traffic and a shortage of parking, especially in the summer.
