    UPDATED: Power outages, road closures and school delays reported in the region

    Heavy rain and wind has caused numerous power outages, downed trees and school delays this morning.

    The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning until 9 a.m. Wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph.

    Connecticut Light & Power is reporting that 61,880 customers statewide are in the dark. The utility company is reporting that 271 customers in East Lyme, 408 customers in Salem, 641 in North Stonington and 102 customers in Waterford are without power.

    Montville was hardest hit by the storm. CL&P is reporting that 39 percent of the town or 3,154 customers are in the dark. At one point, 52 percent of the town was without electricity.

    The outages in Montville has closed school for the day. Salem is on a two-hour delay.

    Montville is also reporting numerous road closures because of downed trees and wires. A portion of Route 163 is closed. Chapel Hill Road in the area of Florida Drive and New York Road is closed. Old Colchester Road in the area of Black Ash and Adamo roads as well as Simpson Lane in the area of Pires Drive are closed.

    Waterford police is reporting that Vauxhall Street between Hickory Lane and Fairlawn Street is closed.

    About 200 Norwich Public Utilities customers lost power during the height of the overnight wind and rain storm, but most were restored quickly, a utility spokesman said this morning.

    As of 10 a.m., only 27 customers remained without power, including 14 on Barbers Road, a rural road in the northern section of Norwich near the Sprague border.
