Connecticut's Alyssa Thomas named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Alyssa Thomas continues to get noticed for her good work.

Thomas, a Connecticut Sun forward, was named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her four-year career on Monday. She was last week's Associated Press WNBA Player of the Week.

Thomas averaged 15.5 points, eight rebounds and a conference-best 6.5 assists in two games for Connecticut from June 19-25. She's moved from small forward to power forward the last seven games due to an injury to starter Morgan Tuck (knee contusion) and is having a career year. She's averaged highs in points per game (13.6) and assists (4.6, ninth-best in the WNBA and second-best among non-guards). She’s also averaged 5.5 rebounds.

It’s the second straight week that a Sun player earned Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors. Center Jonquel Jones won the award for the first time in her two-year career last week.
