    Hurricane Ruth plays Norwich

As I understand it, some national meteorological outfit — the National Weather Service? — names tropical storms and hurricanes after their own employees on some sort of rotating basis. It’s inevitable, I suppose, that at some point we’ll experience a Tropical Storm Stormy or a Hurricane Misty.

Less ridiculously, on Sunday, prepare for Hurricane Ruth. The timeless and powerful St. Louis vocalist takes the stage in the Norwich Arts Center’s Donald L. Oat Theater to emphatically provide appropriate tunes for their Blues on Broadway series.

Hurricane Ruth has opened for a vast array of appreciative artists over her career, including blues giants John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Willie Dixon and rock royalty Heart, Judas Priest and Eddie Money.

This ain’t no piddly Hurricane Misty!

    Hurricane Ruth, 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Blues On Broadway, Donald L. Oat Theater, Norwich Arts Center, 62 Broadway, Norwich; doors open at 6 p.m.; $25, $23 seniors/military/students, $20 members; (860) 887-2789, www.norwicharts.org.
