Concerts on the Green for kids in Stonington

Don’t tell the Little Ones – but it’s almost time for S-C-H-O-O-L to start.

Therefore, parents should do that sugar rush thing – only with activities. Cram together as much fun as you can and perhaps you can slide right into the fall semester and the kiddos won’t even realize it till they plop down at a desk and someone says, “Welcome to Geometry!”

One quality possibility is Friday’s “Sing and Play with Ms. Bergin” event, one of the La Grua Center’s Concerts on the Green series.

It stars Bergin O’Malley, a very fine singer-songwriter for the grownup demographic who widened her focus to include children’s music 12 years ago with the birth of her first child. With her friend and colleague Melissa Haith, she wrote and recorded two upbeat and hooky albums designed to entertain and educate kids – and parents, too.

Her “Stonington Song,” in fact, has become a sort of “Stairway to Heaven” anthem for Stonington families – and its infectious spirit certainly appeals to folks from all over.

Bring your own blankets, chairs and refreshments (no liquor). Dogs are not allowed on the Green.

Sing and Play with Ms. Bergin, Concerts On the Green, 6 p.m. Friday, open for seating at 5 p.m., Stonington Commons Green, 32 Water St., Stonington; free; www.lagruacenter.org.
