Until Outer Light Brewing Company came along, it was a commonly held belief across America that the "pig roast" as a warm-weather, outdoor social gathering was the exclusive domain of bikers. Bikers are ALWAYS having pig roasts: roaring into saloon parking lots on their ironically named "hogs" to drink beer and eat freshly roasted pork.

But, sayeth Outer Light, why should bikers have all the fun? For the third year in a row, the Groton brewery hosts a free, family friendly pig roast, taking place Saturday. They're bringing in the estimable Boru Barbecue folks from Cranston, R.I., to cook the pork — in addition to providing an even dozen house-crafted Outer Light brews for thirst-quenchery. Plus, the entertainment is fantastic.

DJ Roundsound will spin tuneage between sets from Mike Lehmann (12:30 p.m.), Airlooms (2:45 p.m.), The Fake Experience (4:45 p.m.) and The Hempsteadys (6:45 p.m.).

Kickoff to Summer Pig Roast, Outer Light Brewing Company, 266 Bridge St., Groton; free; (475) 201-9972, outerlightbrewing.com.
