New musical "You're Fired!" debuts Friday and Saturday at Norwich Arts Center

Some folks enjoy politics not for the possibilities of governing at its best, but rather for the endless satiric possibilities. Given the current divide in America, perhaps the only thing we'd all agree on is that this time is RIPE for such things.

Mystic resident John M. Waller not only feels that way, but he has also acted on it in a most melodious fashion. He wrote the book, music and lyrics for a new rock opera called "You're Fired!: A Musical History of the Trump Years." The production, which will be staged Friday and Saturday at the Norwich Arts Center, has plenty of potential.

As we head into primary season and only 100 or so presidential rounds of golf before the next Republican convention, "You're Fired!" may provide us with all the hummable energy we need racing into 2020.

"You're Fired!: A Musical History of the Trump Years," 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Norwich Arts Center, 62 Broadway, Norwich; $16 adults, $15 seniors and military, $14 NAC members; (860) 887-2789.
