"In Your Face" exhibition at Hygienic opens Friday

There are those for whom the artistic possibilities of "In Your Face" extend no further than a shaving cream pie thrust by Moe into Larry's woeful visage. While that's admittedly pretty great, it's reassuring that more sophisticated and creative minds are at work. For instance, New London's Hygienic Art presents a new exhibition in the Main Gallery. It's called "In Your Face" and features oil paintings by three Connecticut-based artists — Whitney Lorenze, Sarah Jarrett and Roger Beers. Each explores, according to a press release, "figurative and representational interpretations of people and places through the examination of common human and environmental experiences." The opening reception is from 5:30- 8 p.m. tonight and the show runs through March 14. 79 Bank St., New London; hours noon-7 p.m. Tues.-Fri., 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sat. and noon-4 p.m. Sun.; free; (860) 443-8001,
