A rising star: Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco comes to Mohegan Sun

Sebastian Maniscalco has been killing it in the comedy world as of late. While touring around the country over the last year, he has performed more than 100 shows — the likes of which sell, on average, 4,000 tickets per show. He was also just named to the Forbes’ list of the world’s highest-paid comedians, with earnings of $15 million between June 2016 and June 2017.

But what's unique about Maniscalco compared to his peers such as Louis C.K. and Amy Schumer is that the majority of his paycheck doesn't come from lucrative contracts with Netflix but simply from his stand-up alone. Here's a sample of his comedy, a joke about selfies: "Do you know how alone you have to be to have 838 photos of yourself in your bathroom?"

Maybe it’s his Chicago-raised, Italian-American perspectives that audiences can relate to, or maybe it’s his wacky facial expressions and energetic stage runs that keeps them mesmerized. Whatever it is, his quirky standup has even caught the eye of Jerry Seinfeld, who said, “This guy just makes me laugh in so many different ways. He looks funny, he moves funny, he talks funny.”

Sebastian Maniscalco, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $59-$149; 1-800-745-3000.
