Halloween events around the region
It’s the season when “ghosting” someone is a good thing. Yes, it’s time to don your costume for Halloween.
The holiday is on a Tuesday this year, which might not be ideal, but that does mean that a lot of spooky holiday fun will be happening instead this weekend.
Some of the activities are listed below, and check The Day’s calendar pages in its Thursday Night & Day section for more events.
– New London becomes Halloween Town on Friday. From 6 to 9 p.m., the city’s Waterfront Park will feature chances for kids to trick or treat, or take part in a costume contest. A ghost ship dubbed the Bawdy Buccaneers will offer people “a spine-tingling adventure.” There will be roaming entertainment and more. Visit downtownnewlondonassociation.com for details.
– A Halloween Parade and Trunk or Treat will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday in downtown Mystic. The event is held by the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Mystic Fire Department.
The parade route: Starting at Water Street, onto Route 1, Cottrell Street, Washington Stret, and back onto Route 1.
After the parade, there will be children’s activities at the Mystic Fire Station.
– The NorWITCH Halloween Street is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, when Broadway and Bath streets will be closed to traffic so folks can walk around in their costumes (or regular clothing) and eat in the local restaurants. A magic show, a family-friendly outdoor movie, and a judged costume parade are all part of the festivities. People can visit the food trucks and vendors at the Norwichtown Playhouse Village.
– Eastern Connecticut Ballet brings its popular “Ballet Spooktacular” back to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center for a series of performances on Saturday and Sunday.
This family-friendly show includes “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” about a new wizard and a malfunctioning magic wand, and “Dancing Bones,” with glow-in-the-dark dancing skeletons.
Performances are at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The 11:30 a.m. Saturday one is sensory-friendly. Tickets are $14-$22; visit thekate.org or call (860) 510-0453.
– And on Halloween proper, The United in Westerly is serving up:
“Trunk or Treat: Spooky Delights on High Street. Trick, Treat, and Repeat!” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Kids can trick or treat on High School and take part in “trunk or treat” at the municipal lot next to Miceli’s Furniture.
The Providence Drum Troupe, a group of musicians, acrobats, hoopers and dancers, will perform from 5 to 6 p.m. on High Street.
The United will hold a Taylor Swift party from 6 to 7 p.m. and screen The Eras movie at 7 p.m.
