    Enjoy a special exploration of the exhibition Album of Flowers | Interesting Times with the artist Catherine Christiano and scholar Yibing Huang. Learn about the important Japanese and Chinese artistic traditions that influenced Christiano’s representation of flora with reflections from both the artist and scholar. Then, spend time touring the exhibition under new light.

    About the Speakers
    Catherine Christiano is a Connecticut based artist known for her detailed representational works. Often working in series, the pieces she creates may include multiple panels, mirrors, or painted still lifes juxtaposed with newspaper content reflecting contemporary concerns. Her work has been included in exhibitions at regional museums and university galleries, including the New Britain Museum of American Art. She has also exhibited with George Billis Gallery in New York City and Los Angeles.

    Yibing Huang’s research and teaching interests cover a broad range, including modern and contemporary Chinese literature, art and culture; comparative studies of modernism and postmodernism in China and in the West; Chinese American literature and art; indigenous poetics and global modernity; and the cultural translations between Chinese and American poetry. Huang is Curator of the Chu-Griffis Asian Art Collection and teaches contemporary Chinese art at Connecticut College. He curated the exhibition Chinese Landscape Rethought (2019) at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum.
