The art of black and white
Back when every big city had 14 newspapers and even the smaller communities had morning and evening dailies, there was a familiar and knee-slappin' riddle: "What's black and white and (red) all over?" A newspaper! Get it? The "read" was actually the verb and not a color! In a more artistic context, consider "White & Black and Read All Over," a new exhibition by Judith Shea - an Essex artist who creates collage/assemblage pieces on foam core (an example of her work is shown above). "White & Black and Read All Over" kicks off with an opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in The Gallery at Riverside Press, 18 Plains Road, Essex. Runs through Oct. 25. Hours 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and by chance 1-4 p.m. Sat.; (860) 767-8752.
