I’m not exaggerating when I say that Avery Point in Groton is one of the most beautiful places in southeastern Connecticut. Can you imagine living in the Branford House and spending your time gazing out over the lush lawn to the Sound beyond?

Well, even though you weren’t Morton Plant, who built the mansion in the early 1900s, you can always picnic on the lawn now.

Or you can meander along the shore path and see some eye-catching sculpture. The Alexey von Schlippe Gallery, which is located in the Branford House, is hosting its third annual “Open Air” sculpture exhibition through Sept. 29. It boasts pieces by nine sculptors from New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

“Open Air 2022,” UConn Avery Point, 2084 Shennecossett Road, Groton; through Sept. 29; free and open to the public from dawn to dusk; avsgallery.sfa.uconn.edu.
