    H.S. softball: Old Lyme's Standish, Gavin combine to no-hit Portland

    Portland — Kassidy Standish and Audrey Gavin combined on a no-hitter and Maddie Cann had two doubles, three RBI and two runs as Old Lyme High School overwhelmed Portland 19-0 in a five-inning Shoreline Conference softball game Tuesday.

    Standish struck out all nine batters she faced and Gavin struck out two in two innings for the Wildcats (4-2, 3-2). Also, Sadie Rubitski went 3-for-3 with four runs and Paige Kolesnik went 3-for-3, including a double and triple, with three RBI.

    Portland is 1-5, 0-5.

    In other games:

    • Madison Sanborn pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Ledyard defeated Norwich Tech 10-2. Elsyana Morales had two hits, including a two-run triple in the Colonels' five-run first inning. Samantha Fancher added two hits for Ledyard (5-1).

    • Norwich Free Academy scored two runs in the seventh inning, but its rally fell short in a 4-3 loss to Glastonbury. Julie Vincent had two hits, while Sara Cote and Brooke Gottshall each added an RBI single for the Wildcats (4-2), ranked No. 10 in the weekly GameTimeCT/New Haven Register state poll.

    • Trinity Lennon pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and went 3-for-4 with three RBI as Stonington blanked Fryeburg (Maine) 13-0. Colette Dreher went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI for the Bears (5-1) and Abby Flakus had two hits, including a double, with four RBI.

    • Plainfield used a seven-run fifth inning to defeat Wheeler 17-2 in six innings in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III game. Marissa Bergel led the Lions (1-4, 0-2) by going 2-for-2 with a double and run scored. Plainfield is 3-3, 2-2.

    • Ella Cook had two hits and an RBI in New London's 5-2 loss to Killingly. Jaelynn Potter, Finella Smith and Jovanna Potter each had a hit for the Whalers (1-4).

    • Emily Nelson and Meghan Bergeron had the only hits for St. Bernard in a 17-0 loss to Griswold in ECC Division III. The Saints fell to 2-3, 1-2.

    • Ellis Tech rolled to an 18-0 win over Grasso Tech in five innings in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Ayana Hazel had a pair of singles for Grasso (0-4).
