It has been a busy spring for us. First, we followed along as five local Eastern Connecticut Conference teams played in state championship games, with Waterford High School's baseball and softball teams, as well as the East Lyme girls' lacrosse team bringing home titles. And earlier this week, we celebrated the best of the best with The Day's inaugural High School Athlete of the Year Awards Banquet at Port 'N Starboard in New London, attended by more than 160 people.

Beginning Saturday we'll begin unveiling our Spring All-Area teams, with each of our nine spring sports represented by a Player of the Year and an all-star team from our coverage area, as chosen by our six-person sports staff.

The teams will be published as follows: Saturday, golf; Sunday, girls' tennis; Monday, boys' tennis; Tuesday, girls' track & field; Wednesday, boys' track & field; Thursday, girls' lacrosse; Friday, July 5, boys' lacrosse; Saturday, July 6, softball; Sunday, July 7, baseball.
